Home Visit Physiotherapy FAQs

What are Physiotherapists?

Physiotherapists are regulated healthcare practitioners that provide assessment, treatment, and diagnosis of acute and chronic conditions. The goal is to prevent and treat injuries and conditions, and to help you live independently and continue to enjoy your favorite activities.

What to expect from your first physiotherapy home visit?

Your first mobile in-home physiotherapy appointment starts with you and your physiotherapist reviewing your medical history, injuries, conditions, areas of concern, lifestyle, activities and goals.

Your in-home physiotherapist will then work with you to treat your injuries, address your concerns, teach you about your injury or condition, and prescribe some stretches and exercises for you to do between appointments.

Are Physiotherapy home visits covered by insurance?

Most health insurance plans cover mobile physiotherapy appointments , so take advantage of your benefits to maintain optimal health, in the safety and comfort of your own home.

Every receipt includes the practitioner's provincial registration number, so you can confidently submit a claim through your private insurance plan for your appointments.

That said, every insurance plan is different so we encourage you to speak to your insurance provider to confirm coverage.

How do I get reimbursed by my insurance for my physiotherapy home visit?

HealthCasa is pleased to offer Direct Billing to most major insurance companies, saving you time and reducing your out-of-pocket expenses. If you are interested in this service, please let us know when you book your first appointment.

We recommend speaking with your doctors at the hospital before being discharged to determine how soon you can start in-home physiotherapy.

Is in-home Physiotherapy covered by OHIP?

Our services are not covered by OHIP, however there are some physiotherapy clinics covered by OHIP.  These clinics sometimes have long waitlists while we strive to get our patients booked in within a few days.

What are the advantages of private in-home physiotherapy?

No Waitlists
OHIP programs often have long wait times. With private physiotherapy, you get immediate access to care—often within 24–48 hours.

More Frequent and Longer Sessions
Publicly funded care is often limited to a set number of shorter sessions. Private physiotherapy offers as many sessions as needed, tailored to your pace and recovery goals.

Personalized One-on-One Care
In many OHIP-funded clinics, therapists may see multiple patients at once. Private physiotherapists provide dedicated, one-on-one attention in every session.

In-Home Convenience
OHIP does not typically cover in-home physiotherapy unless under strict criteria. Private in-home physiotherapy brings expert care directly to your door—no travel required.

Customized Treatment Plans
Private providers design personalized care plans based on your unique needs, lifestyle, and health history—not just standard protocols.
